Kayaking with Chip and Link
By Jean Langenbach and Sue Maconaghy
Sue and I met Chip and Link in Georgia for an Elderhostel Trip. It was "like at first site". How is it that some people walk into
your life and it was as though you always know them?. Kayaking has become a sport that we took on later in our life. Sue and I
have been friends for 35 years and who would have thought that we would paddle our way to senility. Chip was so open and
receptive at the get go. We shared stories of our children and she shared the adventures of traveling and raising her family in
other parts of the world. What a creative women. Most of all we were touched at the closeness she and Link experienced.
Their love radiated to all those in our group. As we have found, living with people during an Elderhostel week, you get to know
people and grow fond of them rapidly. So, that was the beginning of our new friendship with the Muellers.

Last fall Link and Chip dropped us a note about a trip to Arizona in the Spring of '04. We agreed and had the most memorable
Elderhostel Trip ever. Kayaking at the Hoover Dam was fascinating. We hung our wet clothes on Chips' clothes line every
night and laughed about our adventures in Chloride Arizona.  We also joined The Muellers on a raft trip down the Grand
Canyon. We took a very special shot of Chip and Link enjoying lunch along the Colorado River next to our raft and faithful
Indian guide. At the end of the day we all took a helicopter ride up and out of the Canyon. WOW!!!!!!

Thanks to our new friends for showing us adventure love and graciousness. God sent them to us and we were very shocked
to hear that our vivacious friend left us so quickly. We wanted to spend more time with her and Link. She promised to show us
Bees and Blossoms. We hoped to kayak next to them in Virgina Beach. Most of all we wanted to meet some of those special
grandchildren Chip raved about. A lesson learned once again. Live each day at it's fullest. Chip did, I know!

Link and family,it was an honor to have met Chip and Link and we will keep you in mind Link for our Kayaking trips. That is if
you don't mind hanging around some wild wacky older kids who laugh and giggle and love adventure.

Your Elderhostel Friends,
Jean and Sue
